Who knew teleportation was the secret?
Who knew teleportation was the secret?
To building a business.
Pursuing a dream.
Creating meaningful work.
Or simply becoming more of who you’re meant to be.
I know that probably sounds ridiculous.
Stay with me. I’ll tie it together.
Lately, I’ve been playing a lot of Minecraft with my son. The other day, we were deep underground searching for diamonds when I noticed something interesting.
The challenge wasn’t finding the diamonds.
The challenge was staying alive long enough to keep looking for them.
The deeper we went, the more resistance showed up. Zombies. Skeletons. Creepers. We’d get separated in winding caves and have no idea how to find each other again. Sometimes one of us would get taken out entirely and lose all progress.
That’s when teleportation became our secret weapon.
Not because it got us to the diamonds faster.
Not because it allowed us to skip the work.
But because it allowed us to stay in the search.
As long as one of us was still standing, the other could teleport back and continue digging. Instead of starting over, we’d regroup and keep moving toward what we came for.
I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately.
I heard Mike Tyson say something recently that stuck with me. It went something like:
All these spectacular things that are happening mean you’re favored by God. But when you’re favored by God, you’re also favored by the devil.
Whether you take that literally or metaphorically, I think there’s something deeply true about it.
The things we want most often come with resistance attached.
The meaningful business.
The creative project.
The bigger dream.
The next level of growth.
The closer we get to something valuable, the more obstacles seem to appear. Doubt. Fear. Distraction. Comparison. Setbacks we never saw coming.
It’s almost as if the diamonds attract the zombies.
And maybe that’s not because we’re doing something wrong.
Maybe it’s because we’re pursuing something worth finding.
What I’ve learned—in Minecraft, business, and life—is that success isn’t usually about avoiding the obstacles.
It’s about staying in the cave.
Long enough.
Consistently enough.
Courageously enough.
To uncover what’s there.
And that’s where teleportation comes back in.
Sometimes the people around us become a kind of teleportation.
A mentor who helps us regain perspective.
A friend who reminds us why we started.
A strategic partner who helps us navigate the winding caves when we can’t see the path ourselves.
They don’t hand us the diamonds.
They don’t do the digging for us.
But they help us get back into the search when we’ve been knocked off course.
That’s one of the things I love most about working with clients. Not because I have all the answers, but because I get to help people stay focused on what they’re really trying to build when the zombies start closing in.
Because the goal isn’t to avoid resistance.
The goal is to stay in the cave long enough to find the diamonds.
And sometimes, the difference between giving up and finding them is having someone who can help you teleport back into the game.
This is one of my favorite recent collaborations. I’m grateful I get to help people teleport… and help their clients do the same.
