Not Everyone Needs Custom Branding
Why I Built Templates, and Who They’re Really For
Not everyone comes to branding at the same stage of their business.
Some people need deep, fully custom work. Space to explore. A partner to think alongside them and build something from the ground up.
Others need structure. Not taste. Not inspiration. Structure.
That difference matters more than people realize.

How I Think About Levels of Branding Support
I structure my work across a few different levels, not because one is better than another, but because businesses have different needs at different moments.
At the top is fully custom, done-for-you work. This is where we go deep. We shape the strategy, the visuals, the site, and the story together. It’s immersive and collaborative, and it’s the right fit when a business needs clarity at the core.
Then there’s semi-custom. This is for people who want something highly intentional, but don’t need to start from nothing. The foundation is there. The work is about refinement and alignment.
And then there’s DIY. My templates.
This is the category that’s often misunderstood.
Why Templates Exist in My Work
I created templates after seeing the same pattern again and again, especially with photographers.
The work itself was strong. Thoughtful. Beautiful. Full of care.
But the websites didn’t reflect that.
Not because the photographers lacked taste. Most had an incredible eye already. The issue wasn’t aesthetics. It was structure.
Their work lived in a place that didn’t fully support it. There wasn’t enough space to explain their process. Their values. The thinking behind what they do. The site showed the images, but not the depth.
That’s where templates became meaningful to me.

What My Templates Are Actually Designed to Do
These templates are not about decoration.
They’re built around process.
They are structured to help you:
- Tell the story behind your work
- Explain how you work, not just show outcomes
- Communicate what you believe and how you approach your craft
- Create clarity for clients who are deciding whether you’re the right fit
In other words, they help your work be understood, not just seen.
They give strong creative work a framework that matches the care behind it.
Who Templates Are a Good Fit For
Templates are not a compromise.
They are the right choice when:
- You already have a point of view
- Your work is solid, but your site feels behind
- You want to uplevel how you present yourself without needing a fully custom process
- You want something intentional, but efficient
- You are building toward what’s next, not trying to solve everything at once
For many photographers, this stage is exactly where templates shine.

The Bigger Picture
Great work deserves a home that supports it.
Not everyone needs custom branding to move forward. What matters is choosing the level of support that actually fits where you are right now.
My templates exist to bridge that gap. To give thoughtful creatives a structure that reflects the quality of their work and the care behind it.
No matter the stage of business you’re in, your work deserves to be held well.
